Mike, I’m afraid it would be best if you came with us.” Anna explained. “The shop is in ruin and I would hate to think what could happen if the Spina came back for you.”

There are more of them?” Mike seemed shaken.

Oliver walked over to the young man and placed a reassuring arm around his shoulders.

“I’m afraid so. Why don’t you come with us, even if it’s just for a month or two while things calm down a bit.” Oliver began guiding Mike to the driver’s seat of his pickup and opened the door. “Besides? Who’s going to look after Anna while she heals?”

Anna smiled at Mike. “I’ll pay your same wages and give you a severance if you decide to leave once we reach Louisiana.”

Mike looked at Oliver and back toward Anna. “I suppose that’s a fair deal.” He climbed in the truck and closed the door behind him.

“You lead the way. We’ll follow.”
Oliver smacked the hood of the truck as he ran toward the jeep and jumped in the driver’s seat next to Kate. Roland walked toward Tally who was securing the tailgate on Mike’s truck.

“Get in
. We are heading east.”

She ran
toward the passenger side of his truck and jumped in as Roland closed the door behind her. He climbed in the driver’s side and started the engine, waiting for the short caravan to begin its journey.

“I’ve never been to the Big Easy before.” Tally reached for Roland’s hand. “Let’s hope it lives up to its name.”

He laced his fingers through hers.

“That would be nice.” He pulled out onto the highway behind Oliver. “Let’s just enjoy the next two days
. I don’t know how easy it will be to have time alone once we get there. Anna will be on high alert with such a recent Spina attack.”

“Of course she will be
,” Tally answered. “And who better to protect me then my paladin? You may need to stay with me for the next few nights.”

Roland laughed, “That may take some convincing.”

“I don’t see why.” Tally squeezed Roland’s hand. “You are my paladin, nothing more.”

A gentleman sat at his desk staring at a GPS screen on the monitor in front of him
. The phone startled him out of his trance and he answered on the first ring. “It appears the tracker is on the move.”

“Yes sir. We failed to destr
oy the singer. Should I follow?”

No need. Let the tracker do its work. Any casualties?”

“Yes sir, we lost Eddie and his team in an attempt
to trap the singer. The Cadence trained her well. She freed her paladin and captured our agents. They were all trapped in an explosion that destroyed the site, but somehow the Cadence survived.”

The gentleman sighed at the loss
. “Get back to headquarters,” he directed. “We will decide on our next course of action when you return.”

He ended the call and watched as a green dot continued to move across the map in front of him
. He pulled a cell phone from his pants pocket, and used the speed dial. A recorded greeting played at the first ring.

You’ve reached Kate Lambert. Please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as the mood hits me
.”

“Hi sweetheart, it’
s Clyde. I haven’t heard from you in almost two days. Please call me as soon as you can, I’m worried. I miss you, Kate. I hope to see you soon.”

He disconnected the call and placed the phone on his desk
. A smirk appeared on his face. “I hope to see you soon.”
