Softly he kisses his way from my neck to the top of my head before tucking it into his chest, my heart still racing in time with his. I give his chest a little kiss, then glide my finger down his torso, thanking God for this amazing man who loves me in so many ways. Wordlessly we lie snuggled together, until we drift off to sleep.

With a stretch and a moan, I twist myself into Donovan’s embrace. “Good morning,” I say, still sounding a little wanton. “How are you feeling after last night?”

Donovan gives me a luscious kiss, then tucks me into his shoulder, smiling at the memory. “Mmm…I’m a little surprised at myself.”

“You won’t hear any complaints from me, but out of curiosity, how much alcohol did you have?”

“Definitely more than enough,” he says, insistently. He snuggles me a little tighter, us both settling deeper into the bed. “I can’t believe how comfortable I am with you,” he says, his voice now tender, “and I can’t imagine ever being without you. When we are together I feel so complete. It’s like you are the other half of a duality I never knew existed. We really are soul mates.”

“I wish we could remember the past,” I lament.

“I always remember everything about you, like the time when you were twelve, and I walked into your room when you were on the phone with Sally, talking about how cute Jason Grisman was.”

I give Donovan a not-so-loving tap on the shoulder. “Yeah, and the next day you told him, you dirty rat! No, I mean like in our lives before this one.”

His hand glides across my neck, his fingers then raking my hair and threading a cluster just under the temple. “You really believe all that stuff, too?”

“Of course I do. You can’t believe in soul mates and not believe in traveling together. You also can’t believe in traveling together and not accept that you have traveled. I think it’s how we can read each other so well.”
And how you know that I’m thinking about impaling you again.

Donovan lets out a yawn, then nuzzles his chin into the crown of my head. “Hmm… I hope it’s true. I love the idea of being stuck with you for eternity, even with that dirty mind of yours.” Donovan squirms with a little wince. “Can’t you come up with a better word than
impaling
?”

“Quit faking for attention.”

“Who’s faking?”

“You are.”

“Well, it’s not that bad” he admits. “However, I am grateful that I don’t have any classes today. I’d really rather not sit. Did you feel like this after?”

“Remember how you commented that you were bigger than the—”

“Yes!” he quickly interjects. “I don’t need any reminders. Believe me I still have plenty of visuals going on. Scratch what I said earlier. I should have drunk more.”

I give him an adoring kiss. “Tell you what. How about I spend the day nursing your sorry ass—I mean, your poor bottom back to heath? I’ll bring you breakfast in bed, and tell you constantly how amazing you are, among other things.”

Donovan caresses my cheek, and then draws up my chin, touching his tongue to mine in a kiss that makes my senses go haywire. “Sounds perfect, but let’s starve for a while. Right now I just want to hold you.”

“I’ll always love you, Donovan.”

“And I will always love you.”
