Blaring taillights activated his foot. Multiple brakes screamed insults. He jerked forward with the abrupt stop. His bumper was only inches from the car in front of him. Immediately he looked over his shoulder at his sleeping son. It was amazing what Nate could sleep through. So why couldn’t he sleep through the night? The driver in front of Steven waved his arms wildly as he glared in the rearview mirror. He didn’t know what he would do if he lost Nate, too. Steven’s heart raced uncontrolled. He needed a moment to calm himself. Horns honked as he inched his way across two lanes to find a lone parking spot. Safely out of traffic, he put the engine in park. Leaning back, he fought uselessly to get his breathing under control. His arms lay inoperable on the steering wheel and he dropped his head on top of them. The tears won the battle.

I’m not much of a man if I let every little thing turn me into a crybaby.
There was more to it than that.
If Belinda hadn’t died I wouldn’t be such a mess
. His dear sweet wife had been an anchor in his life and now he felt adrift. No, more than that. It was as though he were drowning.

Anger welled up to replace the tears. “Why did you have to leave me?” He screamed at the windshield as he pounded the steering wheel.

About Kathryn Gilmore

“Air Force dependent, curious teenager, wife, mother, grandmother, electric assembler, security guard, waitress, receptionist, scout leader, accounting, and company historian are but a few of the port-of-calls that have made up my life. The people, the places and the experiences are a part of me, which makes them a part of my writing. If at first, you don’t succeed, use it in one of your stories.”

Kathryn, a Nebraska author, writes Sweet Romantic Paranormal Fantasy with a Midwest twist. The characters are much like the people you know or wish you did. From sweet romance for adults to Young Adult Fantasy Adventures there’s something for everyone. Nebraska to Alaska, and anywhere else Kathryn’s imagination is off to, you’ll enjoy the ride.

She spent her childhood with her nose in a book and a foot in any adventure she could find. Today writing is her passion. When she’s not teaching others the joy of writing she gets to spend time with her twelve grandchildren, where she always learns something new (or re-new).

The Year of The Change was originally written for her grandchildren. She hoped she could get the story to one hundred pages so the next generation would have something of her. The characters did not cooperate and kept inviting friends to come along. The story is now over seven books and more than two million words.

Her daughter, Sabrina, has introduced her to sci-fi/fantasy/anime conferences where she has a blast interacting with the Con buffs and promoting her fantasy/paranormal books.

Retirement is looming in the near future. Knowing time to write is within view is what keeps her moving. So many story ideas are sitting on her shelf, waiting for their day in the sun. They will have to wait until the aforementioned projects are done and published. They aren’t happy about that.
