Finola’s office, a week later ...

“So what you are telling me is that not only can you not locate a demon slayer who somehow made it directly into our midst, but now you have lost a possessed human and the demon that possessed her?”

Finola gave Satan a pained look, then nodded. “Yes, that is what has happened.”

Satan, who stood in the center of her office in his older man guise, tapped his cane on the floor, clearly frustrated. Tristan didn’t want to know what he’d rather be doing with that cane.

“I’m not pleased about this,” Satan said, his voice booming off the glass walls.

“I know, master.” Finola lowered her head, contrite. She knew she was in deep doo-doo. She’d already angered the Prince of Darkness once. Most demons didn’t get too many second chances, much less a third one.

“I did tell Tristan to follow both the human and the boyfriend,” Finola said, throwing him under the bus as usual. He wasn’t surprised.

But he was also hopeful about Satan’s response. Tristan was counting on the big boss to see the truth about Finola. She hadn’t even been aware that there was a demon slayer in their midst.

And Satan didn’t let him down.

“The only reason I’m aware that there is a breach in our security is because of Tristan. You didn’t even know,” Satan stated. “That is why I’ve decided that Tristan will now be in charge of this magazine and this takeover.”

Finola looked like she wanted to argue, but she remained silent.

Satan turned to Tristan. “I expect you to do a much better job than Finola has.”

Tristan nodded. “I will, master.”

Oh, he would.
